Doctor Who - Kate O' Mara Who Played The Rani Has Passed Away
Kate O'Mara who played the Rani in two Doctor Who stories with two different Doctors has passed away at the age of 74 after a short illness. She first appeared in the Colin Baker story the Mark of the Rani where along with Anthony Ainley's Master tried to disrupt the Luddite Rites by taking the power of sleep from the miners. She would later return 2 seasons later in Sylvester McCoy's debut story Time of The Rani. There she shoots down the TARDIS and triggers The Doctor's regeneration making him become the 7th Doctor. She is most famously known for her role in Dynasty and also had a reoccurring role in Absolutely Fabulous.

Classic Doctor Who Director Derek Martinus Has Passed Away
Derek Martinus who has directed some of the more popular stories including the first regeneration story The Tenth Planet has passed away at the age of 82. His credits include Blakes 7 and Z Cars and 26 episodes of Doctor Who including Galaxy 4, Mission to the Unknown, The Tenth Planet, The Evil of the Daleks , The Ice Warriors and the first color Doctor Who story Spearhead from Space. Unfortunately quite a bit of his stories are missing but those that do exist are some of the classic stories from the shows history and ones I like to watch over and over.

themselves on a space station that is orbiting a moon that belongs to the
planet Saturn. The main purpose of the
station is to mine a rare mineral for Earth who is starved for minerals. Something seems to have gone amiss. Equipment has been sabotaged. Supplies have
gone missing and strange blue creatures seem to have been seen on the moon. To make matters worse there is a member of the
crew who is bent on getting the precious mineral at no cost and that includes
blowing the moon up killing everyone in the vicinity.
Doctor Who - Mark Gatiss To Write Two Doctor Who Episodes
Peter has a very different energy to Matt Smith and to David Tennant. He's older which changes everything ... it's amazing what a change does! Matt was sublime and I was very sorry to see him go, but it's also great to have a change, as it has always been with the Doctor.

SOVEREIGN TAKES THE THRONE
SOVEREIGN TAKES THE
THRONE
A new epic high fantasy series that critics
can’t stop talking about
Chris Roberson (Edison
Rex, iZombie) and Paul Maybury (POPGUN, Catalyst
Comix) brought to life a
multi-layered and intricately-plotted fantasy series on par with Game of
Thrones that has drawn the attention of legions of fans in SOVEREIGN
#1, which has
sold out instantly at the distributor level and will be going into a second
printing.
In a world where gods, demons,
and magic have slipped into myth, SOVEREIGN tells the story of masked
undertakers facing the undead with swords while civil wars threaten the delicate
balance between colliding cultures. But out of the ashes of history rises a new
threat and the promise that magic has not yet faded into mere
memory.
Praise for
SOVEREIGN:
“Paul Maybury’s art is
excellent, especially for this kind of series. The work has a distinct and
specific look, one that draws on inspiration from old, classic stories like
The Three Musketeers or The Man In The Iron Mask. His pencils
are thin, but exquisitely detailed. There is a rustic quality about every panel,
which allows for Roberson's story to really come to life.” —Iann Robinson,
Crave Online
“If this comic keeps
delivering on the deep epic-fantasy foundations its building in issue #1, and
Maybury keeps his design-sense sharpened, Sovereign will absolutely be
a long form story worth investing in.” —Vince Ostrowski, Multiversity
Comics
“Like the start to Brian K.
Vaughan's Saga, this new world birthed in Sovereign #1 gives
the impression of being vast. It feels like there is a good deal to explore,
experience, and exploit. Sword-wielding masked monks, dead monsters at sea and
hunting parties make for a great start to a fresh feeling fantasy epic waiting
to grow with each coming issue.” —Bloody Disgusting
“Even from this inaugural
chapter, Sovereign hints at a massive tapestry brimming with
curiosities and complexities that could mean volumes to come.” —Sean Edgar,
Paste Magazine
SOVEREIGN #1 has completely
sold out at the distributor level, but may still be available in comic stores,
and is currently available digitally on the Image Comics website
(imagecomics.com) and the official Image Comics iOS app, as well as on
Comixology on the web (comixology.com), iOS, Android, and Google
Play.
Image Comics is pleased to
announce that this first issue will be going back to print to meet customer
demand.
The second printing of SOVEREIGN #1 (Diamond Code FEB148200) will
release on 4/23.
SOVEREIGN #2 releases 4/23 as
well and will be available to order with Diamond Code
FEB140630.

Michael Green (Green Lantern) is to be writing the sequel to the Alien prequel, Prometheus. This movie is promised to have more connections with the Alien franchise as well as more androids played by Michael Fassbender (David in Prometheus).
While I was disappointed in Prometheus, I thought it's scope was excellent. Lets hope they can improve on things for the sequel.

Doctor Who - Mathew Waterhouse Returns As Adric For 5Th Doctor Boxset
Mathew Waterhouse returns to Doctor Who as Adric for a Big Finish 5th Doctor Box set. Adric
is one of the more famous companions not really in popularity but for the fact that he is one of the few that have been killed off. Mathew Waterhouse was one of the few companions that have not done a Big Finish audio adventure and now you can relive the early 80's TARDIS crew in August when this box set comes out. You can preorder it from the Big Finish Website.
http://bigfinish.com/releases/v/the-fifth-doctor-box-set-1014
This box set contains two stories across four discs, plus a bonus 'behind the scenes' CD.
Psychodrome by Jonathan Morris
Shortly after surviving the perils of Logopolis, Castrovalva and the machinations of the Master, the new Doctor and his new crew could be forgiven for wanting to take a breather from their tour of the galaxy. But when the TARDIS lands in a strange and unsettling environment, the urge to explore is irresistible... and trouble is only a few steps away.
The world they have found themselves in is populated by a wide variety of the strangest people imaginable - a crashed spacecraft here, a monastery there, even a regal court. And not everyone they meet has their best interests at heart.
With the TARDIS stolen, and the very environment itself out to get them, the travellers face a extremely personal threat. They'll have to work as a team if they want to get out alive... but can you really trust someone you barely know?
Iterations of I by John Dorney
The house on Fleming's Island had been left to rot. Ever since a strange and unexplained death soon after it was built, and plagued with troubling rumours about what lurked there, it remained empty and ignored for decades until the Cult moved in. As twenty people filled its many rooms, the eerie building seemed to be getting a new lease of life.
But now it is empty again. The cult found something in its corridors... and then vanished.
Trapped on the island one dark night, the Doctor, Tegan, Nyssa and Adric look into the building's mysteries, its stories of madness and death. Their only chance is to understand what terrible thing has been disturbed here... before it consumes them utterly.

Doctor Who - I Am The Doctor, Whether You Like It Or Not: 30 Year Anniversary of Colin Bakers 6th Doctor Debut
I Am The Doctor, Whether You Like
It Or Not:
30 Year Anniversary of Colin
Bakers 6th Doctor
30 years ago on March 22nd
Colin Baker’s first story as The Doctor was aired. We already had a glimpse of the new Doctor in
the closing minute of The Caves of Androzani and now The Twin Dilemma gave us
the full meal so to speak. John Nathan –
Turner decided to give the fans a story for the new Doctor at the end of season
21. He thought it would be a long wait
for the fans to go without seeing the new Doctor that some might forget what
happened but mainly to cause excitement for Colin Baker’s first season. Well unfortunately the fans had the memory of
The Twin Dilemma to tie them over and well they did not come away with a good
impression of the new Doctor and unfortunately Colin Baker’s Doctor left a bad
taste to quite a few fans.
What Other Missing Shows Could Be Found? Part Two
By Ken Parker
Welcome to part 2 of this article series. When I took this article on I figured I could easily come up
with a fairly detailed list of sci-fi fantasy tv shows from Britain
that are incomplete or missing that we might see recovered. If these rumors of a huge find of film cans is even partially true, we could be looking at a massive about of recovered TV.
While I found many very
informative websites, it was very difficult to compile this list as
there are so many shows out there missing. I was hoping to find a definitive site and one that could perhaps come up with an estimate of what percentage is missing. Of course what is missing and what can be recovered are two different animals. So much live TV is gone forever. These early teleplays and the like were only meant to be shown once and the value of these productions was not seen back before the late 50's. beyond historical value, nothing was ever shown again and so what was the point. The invention of the video tape changed all that and recordings were made for documentation.
Unfortunately the value was still not realized and orders to junk many of the video tapes were made. Thankfully telecine was done, copying videos onto film for sales abroad. This process would end up saving the vast majority of British TV that had been previously junked. Most if not all of Doctor Who's original video tapes from the 60's are gone and everything that exists is from film.
It might seem odd to read an article about these lost treasures from someone who never seen them, coming from America. I became fascinated with British sci-fi in my younger years and actively sought to see as much of it as I could. There is so much still out there to see and if these rumors are true, much much more to come.
So here are some more
series, most of which I have never personally seen, that sound
interesting.

Doctor Who - When Peter Turned Into Colin: Celebrating Peter Davison’s Last Season
When Peter
Turned Into Colin:
Celebrating
Peter Davison’s Last Season
Has it been
30 years already since Peter Davison hung up that Cricket style costume with
the stick of celery on it? Yes it has
and if you remember watching the Fifth Doctor during the 80’s then you must be
feeling pretty old. Well maybe not as
old as the ones who watched Jon Pertwee turn into Tom Baker 40 years ago this
May. Even still I cannot believe it has
been 30 years since Peter Davison regenerated into the robust and blond haired
Colin Baker to the amazement of Peri inside the TARDIS console room. It just ‘Feels different this time.’
Peter
Davison’s last season started on January 5th 1984 with the not so
memorable Warriors of the Deep. Well it
is memorable but for all the wrong reasons.
It is often called Warriors of the Cheap as the sets was less than
stellar but the one thing that always stuck in my mind was why Ingrid Pitt’s
character Solow would karate kick the Myrka who is an electric based creature
that if touched you would be electrocuted.
Plus just look at the Myrka talk about cheap. It was definitely not one of the better
rubber suit monsters that the show has come up with. Season 21 starts with a story that should be
great with the return of the Silurians and the Sea Devils but the story is just
ok and I consider it one of my guilty pleasures to watch as I think it is
somewhat enjoyable despite being mediocre.

Marco Polo the Myth and Mystery
Behind the Doctor Who Story
By Will Barber – Taylor
50
Years ago this year, one of the most well-known missing Doctor Who stories,
Marco Polo was broadcast. It is the only missing story from the first season of
the show and ever since it was wiped it has held an awe of mystery. More copies
of it were produced than any other
story so if any serial
still exists then it is likely to be Marco Polo. What led to the creation of
this epic story and what is the story behind it?

What Other Missing Shows Could Be Found? Part One
By Ken Parker
With rumors of missing Doctor Who episodes found, numbers ranging from 11 to 97, one has to wonder what else might have been found. If we are talking a huge find of thousands of film cans, what other gems could we be looking at soon? That is a tough question because many older series do not have the popularity like Doctor Who. Some of these series might not have been sold to that many countries and even if some of this stuff is found, would the money be spent to restore and release these? In theory, yes. Beyond some historical gems like the BBC's Apollo 11 coverage and some appearances by The Beatles, there are so many other series that people fondly remembered from that time period.
There are a fair number of sci-fi and fantasy series included in the missing category and it would be great to see these recovered. What else could be found? Here is a list of some of the series that I would love to see returned. Some of these I have seen parts of the seasons, the ones that exist. Others I have just read about and am curious.
Wendy wants to find more missing episodes! |
Doctor Who – The Missing Companion – Ping-Cho
Every missing episode of Doctor Who is part of the show's mythology. Most are these holy grails that many fans have never seen. They are often thought of as the best of the best and are heavily regarded. What fans know of them are based on memories, novelizations, scripts, Cura tele-snaps, audio recordings and fan reconstructions. Only when these stories are found would the truth be known and still, only from a perspective of watching them in this day and age. We do not have the luxury of enjoying these over the years. As fans we have been able to see stories over and over again thanks to home video. We have picked apart “The Ark” and “Wargames” over and over again. Do these live up to our memories seeing them when they first aired? What about when we saw them at the convention, or bootleg or when they finally came out on DVD?

Snowblind by Christopher Golden - Book Review
By Ken Parker
Snowstorms in New England can be
exciting and terrifying at the same time. The potential of losing
power, being stuck somewhere and cut off from others are certainly a
danger that one must prepare for in these situations. Now thanks to
Christopher Golden, he has given us more to be afraid of.

Frazer Hines Returns As A Guest To Long Island Doctor Who Convention
Frazer Hines who played one of the more popular companions and the main companion for the Second Doctor Jamie McCrimmon will be returning to Long Island Doctor Who this fall. He returns after being a guest last year and his panels were really funny and it gave you a really good insite into the Patrick Troughton years especially since two of his stories have been found. Hopefully more stories will be found for Frazer Hines to talk to us about. Frazer Hines will be at LI Who the weekend of November 7 - 9 2014. More info and the place to buy tickets at this link.

Paul McGann On If He Would Return To Doctor Who
"Why wouldn't I want to do it? If it's going to be that quality, why wouldn't you want to do it? There's always all kinds of rumors. Doctor Who is like a rumor mill, isn't it? 'Yeah, McGann is gonna do this, Matt is gonna do that, there's going to be a spin-off, blah blah blah'. Of course it's all bollocks because it's Moffat who decides what they're going to do next. And of course, now you've got a new Doctor in Peter Capaldi - I think it's only fair that he gets a decent run on his own without any distractions so he gets his feet under the table."
I would love to see Paul McGann return as the 8th Doctor and hopefully we get our wish someday.

CBS Renews Shows for 2014-2015 Season
The Big Bang Theory is safe for 3 more years. It is no surprise that one of CBS's most popular shows keeps getting renewed for multiple seasons at a time and The Big Bang Theory is good at least until 2017.
Also renewed is probably the best written show on TV right now, Person of Interest, which will enter its 4th season.
Elementary is good for at least one more season as it enters its 3rd season.
